Richard studied Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield, gaining a dual qualification degree in 2003. He subsequently worked for S333, an international design office in the Netherlands, where he was involved in a number of high profile housing and mixed use schemes alongside numerous competitions, urban planning and interior design projects.

Richard obtained a diploma at the Bartlett School of Architecture UCL where he nurtured a strong interest in interactive architecture and installations, something which he continued to study to Masters Level. He subsequently worked at Metropolitan Workshop, where he was involved in a wide range of projects, including the complete refurbishment of the grade II listed Great Central House, Marylebone Station and the Libya Heritage Museum in Tripoli.

Richard currently runs a Diploma Unit at the Bartlett, and co-runs the Interactive Architecture Workshop. He has lectured and exhibited internationally, with recent installations including the Eyebeam Institute in New York, The ICA in London, the Matthew Gallery in Edinburgh, and Atelier Farbergasse in Vienna.

Richard was a founding member of AU Studio and qualified as an architect in 2009.
